Floating Platforms for Hotels and Resort Waterfronts

Back to the Journal

A floating platform for resorts and hotels gives guests a place to swim, sit and lie in the sun a short way off the beach, without building anything permanent in the water. It works best as a small set of pieces chosen together, usually a long deck, a netted pool and a lounge, run by staff who check it every morning and bring it ashore when the weather or the season turns.

November is when many Mediterranean properties plan next summer's beach, while winter-sun resorts are heading into their busiest weeks. Either way, the questions an operator needs answered are the same: what guests will actually do on it, which pieces to buy, and who looks after it each day.

What guests use a water deck for

Watch a resort beach for an afternoon and the pattern is clear. Strong swimmers want somewhere to swim out to. Families want water that feels contained. A good share of guests never swim at all; they want to be on the water rather than in it, with a towel, a drink brought out by staff and a view back to the shore.

A floating zone serves all three if it is laid out with that in mind. The deck is the destination and the place to climb out. The pool gives nervous swimmers and children an enclosed area, always with an adult and a member of staff watching. The lounge is for the people who came for the view. Keep the zone in calm, sheltered water, away from boat traffic, and make sure engines and thrusters on any nearby tender or jet ski are off while anyone is in the water.

Choosing the pieces for a resort

The Premium Teak Platform 8.20 m is the backbone of most layouts. At 820 x 205 cm inflated, it is long enough to act as a walkway between the other pieces, and it packs to 105 x 65 x 55 cm, about 61 kg with its bag, so a small team can carry it to the water's edge. Its teak-look surface is non-slip, and it is a look only, not real wood, so it never needs oiling or sanding between seasons.

For a protected swim area, the Deluxe Water Pool 8.20 m measures 816 x 616 cm outside, with a depth of about 240 cm inside an integrated fine-mesh PVC net. The net keeps jellyfish, seaweed and floating debris out, which matters on beaches where a summer bloom can empty the sea of swimmers overnight. It packs to 100 x 80 x 50 cm, so decide early where it will be kept when it is not in the water.

The Prestige Lounge adds the social space. Its base measures 410 x 355 cm, and the optional tent, at 500 x 430 cm, gives shade through the middle of the day, which guests notice more than almost anything else. It works with lounge seats, centre tables and backrests, and it can be set up dockside on a jetty or terrace when the sea is not suitable. It travels in two bags, one for the platform at 90 x 48 x 48 cm and one for the tent at 100 x 60 x 53 cm.

Running it day to day

Buying the pieces takes an afternoon. What makes a floating zone work at a hotel is a routine the beach team follows every day without being reminded.

Each morning, someone walks the deck and the pool edges, checks that every piece is firm, looks over the mooring lines and fixing points, and confirms the net is intact. Inflation is topped up to the pressure stated in the product instructions, because a cool night can soften a deck that was firm the afternoon before. A named member of the beach team watches the zone whenever it is open, and the zone closes when the wind rises or the water turns choppy, with no exceptions for a busy afternoon.

At the end of each day, rinse off salt and sun cream with fresh water. Out of season, everything comes ashore, is washed, dried completely and packed into its bags, then stored somewhere dry and out of direct sun. The warranty runs for 2 years from delivery, so keep the delivery note with the maintenance log.

Tailor-made options for larger sites

Standard sizes cover most beaches, but some sites need a different shape: a deck that follows a jetty, a longer run out to deeper water, or a different surface finish. Tailor-made pieces are made on request, and each design is quoted individually. Tailor-made items are excluded from returns, unlike standard products, which can be returned unused in their original packaging within 14 days of delivery.

The most useful first step is a short message through the contact page with photos of the beach and the water, a note of where you would like the zone to sit and how you plan to staff it. That is usually enough for the team to suggest a layout from standard pieces or to say where a tailor-made piece would help.

Frequently asked questions

  • Yes. Tailor-made pieces can be adapted in size, surface or configuration, with an individual quote for each design. Photos of the site and a rough sketch sent through the contact page are a good start.

  • Yes. The Prestige Lounge is made to be used afloat or set up dockside, so a resort can move it onto a jetty or terrace on days when the sea is too lively for the floating zone.
